Growing up in East Oakland CA during the drug epidemic in the 80s, gangs, violence and death were a part of Nasir Allah's (AKA "Nas") everyday reality. His dad was among the top of the chain of the gang life, until he too tragically succumbed to its harsh reality. As a young adult, Nas himself also became heavily active in the street lifestyle, tagging buildings with graffiti, selling illicit stuff, and getting into fights and into jails.

Yet somehow today, he owns his own successful barbershop, Supreme Blend Barber Shop, in Oakland.

Listen to this episode to hear Nas' inspiring story of:

  • How he went from a young adult causing trouble to be the role model troubled young adults go to for help

  • How his passion and talent for graffiti art led to a life-changing opportunity as an art teacher in one of Oakland's most notorious neighborhoods

  • How his life experience growing up in such turbulent circumstances ended up fueling his life purpose
